Attention is light

Lover of attention and hater of light

Sep 5, 2026

Houses look larger when there is light. When I open my balcony, my house looks so much larger, the world almost feels abundant when my windows and balcony are opened and light enters my space. I can also see more in detail when there is light on leaves. And there's just more of everything when there is light. Colours change too, it's brighter and warmer when there is light. Not always do I like this, I get really overwhelmed. But after a long stretch of rain and sun shines again, I feel much much better.

"What you pay attention to, grows"

Attention is something I'm constantly learning to let go. Letting go is somehow more control, but the nature of the engagement helps me pay attention. Which is observing everything that is coming by, naming it and letting go. Hence, letting go of what my brain wants to think about but holding onto a neutral curiousity. And everything I choose to pay attention to and engage with grows, it expands, gets interesting and more detailed. And I love that. I fully now understand that "throwing light on it" isn't just making something visible, its also planting it in someone's (or your own) mind so it can spark interest and have a chance to get interesting and grow.

In other ways attention changes things. When someone does something by themselves is different than when you're around other people. Sometimes objects themselves change knowing there is attention incoming, like you'll clean your room before someone comes over, so knowing attention is incoming changes the object that is the room. Which is crazy because we've seen it on a smaller scale like changing path of particles in a double slit experiment. We are not very different even at a many magnitude larger scale. Attention changes how you experience the world and the world itself changes with your attention. By paying attention to your friends' existence (not just words) there is meaning to their life, kids that were paid attention to when they were young, they're more regulated than their other counter-parts (or severely anxious if there was too much of specific type of attention). By paying attention to clenched muscles you're able to unclench them, giving names to your experience and thus paying attention allows you to build an idea of the world you experience looks like and sometimes - change it when you can tell "I am experiencing this and I don't want it"

Attention is light. So throw light on your life, people and yourself.
